Ch’nook Indigenous Business Network provides Aboriginal business & management students access to a variety of opportunities and resources to enhance their business education. Network registration is free and is open to full-time and part-time students studying at one of Ch’nook’s 25 Accord Partner Institutions as well as Ch’nook Alumni.
Current Ch’nook Indigenous Business Network opportunities include:
Ch’nook Scholars
For the past five years, Ch’nook has recognized over 70 students as Ch’nook Scholars. In addition to a $2000 scholarship, each Scholar receives expenses-paid attendance to two Provincial Gatherings, business cards, professional headshot, and many opportunities to meet industry professionals and network with other Scholars. Scholars must be full-time students and agree to uphold the Ch’nook philosophy of Achieve & Contribute.
Ch’nook Bursaries
Ch’nook Bursaries are available to full-time and part-time students as well as Ch’nook Alumni. Network members may request financial support to help cover the costs of tuition, books, conferences, professional development, and tutoring. Ch’nook Bursary applications are accepted throughout the year and are awarded on a case-by-case basis.
Ch’nook Internships
Working with Academic and Funding Partners, Ch’nook is arranging for summer internship opportunities within various fields and industries throughout the province. If accepted for an internship, Ch’nook will assist participants in securing housing and travel arrangements if they are unfamiliar with the host institution or city.
Ch’nook Mentorships
Ch’nook believes that a relationship through mentoring is one of the most valuable learning processes that a student can benefit from. Ch’nook works to pair members of the Ch’nook Indigenous Business Network with local business and community leaders while providing structure and support to ensure a positive mentor-mentee relationship.
Ch’nook Indigenous Business Trek
Ch’nook Indigenous Business Trek provides an opportunity for approximately 10 members of the Ch’nook Indigenous Business Network to travel internationally to meet industry leaders, gain exposure of international business, learn about other Indigenous cultures and their related business activities and to participate in volunteer activities aligned with the values and philosophies of Ch’nook.
Ch’nook Cousins
Ch’nook Cousins provides aboriginal youth an opportunity to discuss issues important to them, participate in activities focused on leadership skills and goal setting, learn about the opportunities available in business and to discover what BC post-secondary institutions offer business/management studies.
Ch’nook Provincial Gatherings
Ch’nook hosts two biannual Provincial Gatherings that focus on a multitude of themes including leadership, networking, economic sustainability, traditional teachings, and professional development
The first Gathering of the academic year is held in Vancouver and the second Gathering is hosted by one of Ch’nook’s Regional Partners.
Ch’nook Regional Partners
Ch’nook has established Regional Partnerships with Vancouver Island University, Thompson Rivers University, the Sauder School of Business (UBC), and The University of Northern British Columbia. Through these Regional Partners, Ch’nook will be delivering more locally defined support, resources and opportunities for Ch’nook Indigenous Business Network members, high-school students, and communities.
