Indigenous Business Network

Ch’nook’s Indigenous Business Network provides Aboriginal business and management students access to a variety of opportunities and resources to enhance their business education. Network registration is free and is open to full-time and part-time students studying at one of Ch’nook’s 25 Accord Partner Institutions as well as Ch’nook Alumni.
Ch’nook Indigenous Business Network opportunities include:
Ch’nook Scholars
- Ch’nook recognizes Aboriginal business students studying in institutions across British Columbia who demonstrate personal and professional acheivements and have made contributions to university / college or community as Ch’nook Scholars
- In addition to a $2000 scholarship, each Scholar receives expenses-paid attendance to two Provincial Gatherings, business cards, professional headshot, and many opportunities to meet industry professionals and network with other Scholars
- Scholars must be full-time students and agree to uphold the Ch’nook philosophy of Achieve & Contribute
- Apply to be a Ch’nook Scholar
Ch’nook Bursaries
- Ch’nook provides bursaries to full-time and part-time students as well as Ch’nook Alumni
- Network members may request financial support to help cover the costs of tuition, books, conferences, professional development, and tutoring
- Ch’nook Bursary applications are accepted throughout the year and are awarded on a case-by-case basis.
Ch’nook Internships
- Working with Academic and Funding Partners, Ch’nook arranges summer internship opportunities within various industry sectors throughout the province
- If accepted for an internship, Ch’nook will assist participants in securing housing and travel arrangements if they are unfamiliar with the host institution or city
Ch’nook Mentorships
- Ch’nook believes that having a mentor can be one of the most valuable learning processes in a student’s experience
- Ch’nook works to pair members of the Ch’nook Indigenous Business Network with local business and community leaders while providing structure and support to ensure a positive mentor-mentee relationship
Ch’nook Indigenous Business Trek
- Ch’nook Indigenous Business Trek provides an opportunity for approximately 10 members of the Ch’nook Indigenous Business Network to travel internationally
- ITrek participants meet Indigenous and non-Indigenous industry leaders, gain insights into the issues, challenges and demands of pursuing an international business career
- Participants learn about other Indigenous cultures, their related business activities and contribute to volunteer activities aligned with the values and philosophies of Ch’nook
Ch’nook Cousins
- Ch’nook Cousins seeks to motivate and inform Aboriginal high school students in grades 11 and 12
- promotes the benefits of pursuing careers in business, entrepreneurship and management
- facilitates direct connections with post-secondary institutions, Aboriginal post-secondary business students and corporate partners to help inform their educational and career choices
- Ch’nook Scholars participate as facilitators, role models and mentors during regional workshops
Ch’nook Provincial Gatherings
- Ch’nook hosts two Provincial Gatherings a year that focus on Aboriginal business, leadership, networking, economic sustainability, traditional teachings, and professional development
- The first Gathering of the academic year is held in Vancouver and the second Gathering is hosted by one of Ch’nook’s Regional Partners
Ch’nook Regional Partners
- Ch’nook has established Regional Partnerships with Vancouver Island University, Thompson Rivers University, the Sauder School of Business (UBC), and The University of Northern British Columbia
- Ch’nook works with its Regional Partnersto deliver workshops and educational opportunities that resonate closely with regional needs and opportunities
